And while Nationals’ Barnaby Joyce was nowhere to be seen in the city, a handful of parliamentary hopefuls spent the day high-fiving and handshaking as voters found themselves dragged to the polls for the second time in under two years.

Hundreds of snags were going hot at polling stations across the region.

Tamworth High School students had already sold more than 100 democracy sausages by 11am.

“We expect to sell about 300 or something,” Tamworth High Year 12 student Zane Ninness told The Leader.

And while many voters had already made up their mind before entering the booths, some were still undecided.

“I want to see a bit more consistency locally,” resident Kane West said.

“I know we play in a big world field but I think he needs to look at home again a bit more, if it’s going to be Barnaby.”

And for the younger ones who can’t yet vote, well they just came for a good snag.
