Arriving by fire truck, Santa came all the way from the North Pole to grant wishes to children.
Armidale Regional Council mayor Simon Murray said the event was a fantastic example of shops, performers, producers and creators working together.
“I think it was brilliant, there was a terrific crowd and I think the only problem was that we needed a bigger spot for Santa,” Cr Murray said.
A number of shop owners remained open to trade during the event that ran until late evening.
It was an opportunity to see how night markets and Mall events might benefit in the future, Cr Murray said.
Everyone loved it, I just didn’t see Santa, that’s the sad bit.

“We’re trying to attract more activities down there,” he said.
“Definitely there was a captive audience there and those shops that remained open – I hope they traded very well.

For the mayor, the meaning of Christmas is spending time with family.
“It’s a family time,” Cr Murray said.
“Hopefully I’ll be spending it with my wife and her father.”
Children enjoyed painting the mural outside the Tattersalls Hotel on the night and watching performances by The Trolls.
For the parents, there were plenty of stalls selling handmade gifts, plants and presents perfect for Christmas.
The event was free to attend and took place on Thursday night.
