It was one of several raids carried out across south-western Sydney on Tuesday afternoon as part of the investigation into the shooting, police confirmed.

Semi "Tongan Sam" Ngata, 59, was shot in the back by an unknown gunman at the property owned by Wahiba Ibrahim on Friday night.

It occurred as late-night preparations continued for the wedding of Mr Ibrahim's nephew Hassan "Sam" Sayour and Aisha Mehajer, the sister of former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer.

The wedding went ahead on Saturday as Mr Ngata was recuperating in hospital. He remains under police guard in hospital. Police wouldn't comment on reports he was refusing to be interviewed in line with the underworld's so-called code of silence.

On Tuesday afternoon, police searched the Price Street home, cordoning off the street to conduct a line search.

"A number of search warrants are underway in south-western Sydney this evening," a police spokeswoman said.

"The search warrants relate to ongoing investigations into a previous shooting incident in Merrylands last week."

The search came just hours after police appealed for information into a vehicle linked to the shooting.

Detectives released an image of a Subaru WRX similar to the one suspected of being used as the getaway car.

The late-model, dark metallic blue sedan with NSW registration was found burnt out a short time after on Rees Street at Mays Hill.

Police said the car and a second similar Subaru had been stolen from a Pemulwuy address on the night of October 29.

The second vehicle was recovered in Murray Street at Merrylands on November 8, only a short distance from where the other vehicle was set alight.

Mr Ngata has worked as a bodyguard for John Ibrahim for more than a decade after the pair met in Kings Cross in the 1990s.

He was once arrested in a raid on his home that netted bulk quantities of a methamphetamine precursor.

It's not clear if the Friday night shooting is related to the August arrest of two Ibrahim brothers, Michael and Fadi, who were caught in a dramatic sting in Dubai.

Michael Ibrahim was charged over the attempted importation of 1.9 tonne of MDMA, ice and cocaine. Fadi Ibrahim is accused of drawing $800,000 from the mortgage on his house to help fund his brother Michael's alleged international crime syndicate, and then being repaid $1.6 million.

Michael Ibrahim was allegedly two-timing between rival Sydney drug syndicates led by two warring Middle Eastern crime families.

During the massive police operation, John's house was raided but he was not alleged to be involved. Fadi has since been released on $2 million bail but Michael remains in custody. The only brother not in custody or facing charges at the moment is John.

All four Ibrahim brothers - John, Fadi, Sam and Michael - have been shot or stabbed over the course of their lives.

The most recent was a drive-by shooting that hit the youngest, Michael, in the shoulder as he stood on Macquarie Street in the CBD one night in January 2015. He had been released from prison five months earlier after serving time for manslaughter.

Mr Sayour, the son of the Ibrahims' sister, Maha Sayour, was shot himself in a dispute at Old Guildford in February 2011. The then 19-year-old was shot twice in the groin while two of his associates were also wounded.

In a lengthy interview in 2014, John Ibrahim told the Australian Financial Review he was unimpressed with criminals in Sydney.

"Who really shoots other people's houses in the middle of the night?" he said.
