Dwyer is no stranger to stirring the pot in an Australia-England Test week. He put the referees on notice before a pool match between the two sides at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Australia pummelled England's scrum and since then Cole has come out and said the former Wallabies coach probably influenced referee Romain Poite in the crucial clash.

In a match where scrums could play a pivotal role in deciding who comes away victorious, Dwyer wants referee Ben O'Keeffe to be aware of what he feels is Cole and Marler's tricks of the trade they've been getting away with for years.

"It's up to the referee now and the touch judges - not that they're very good at that - to see how it happens," Dwyer told Fairfax Media. "They're both very good players but I would suggest the referee tells his two touchies to keep a close eye on them. The bloke on the other side to the referee needs to be looked at most closely.

"They're certainly smart. For a long while the onus of breaking the game rested on the loose-head prop. As soon as the pressure came on them, certainly in the World Cup, all of a sudden the tight-head started to take over. Dan Cole has earned the reputation of being a smart, experienced prop, which he is. He can roll his shoulder under and pull the other bloke down and all of a sudden the opposition loose-head gets the blame. He gets away with that now."

Marler is not Dwyer's biggest fan. He called the 1991 World Cup winning coach a "wanker" on Twitter last year and was warned by the RFU for his comment.

With Australia's scrum tracking along nicely in recent matches, Jackson will have a big task on his hands come Saturday.

The New Zealander will also no doubt have heard Cheika's inference on Thursday that England deliberately held onto Australian players during Tests last year.

"They try to bully us at scrum, at the lineout and at the ruck, niggle, trying to get into our halfback after he passes, the [number] 10 after he passes," Cheika said. "There is so much footage of that."

Asked for clarification, Cheika said: "If you get away with it, it's legal isn't it? We like to take the game to the line. There is always a danger of that happening when you play the game at the line like that. [We have] just got to get back up and get on with the next thing and understand it's going to happen.

"I won't highlight it to the ref, what's the point? It's part of the game."

Jones was asked later if he felt England deliberately targeted Australian players.

"Ask Michael, I don't have a response, mate," Jones said. "We play the game legally."

In an interview last year, Nick Phipps, who was Australia's halfback for all four matches in 2016 against England, described the Old Enemy's tactics as "borderline".

Wallabies back-rower Sean McMahon said: " It is something we need to focus on; the attacking breakdown and make sure we are protecting our halves and making sure we are clearing out properly to give clean ball to the rest of the team."

Meanwhile, Dwyer has backed up Stephen Larkham's claim that Eddie Jones is "spoilt" and that the pressure is all on him come this weekend.

Larkham's comments have ruffled feathers in the UK, however, many believe he has a point, especially Dwyer.

He said it was the British media that would come hounding Jones if performances began to decline.

"If Bernie thinks that the pressure is on Eddie because England demand a lot, he's right there," Dwyer said. "If we think the Australian media are savage, the English media are twice as savage. They sing the praises long and loud and clear and if the performance doesn't measure up to the media's beat-up, then they come down on the team like a tonne of bricks."
