Melbourne Cup celebrations in the New England and North West

New England and the North West paused for the race that stopped the Nation on Tuesday.

Many towns had their own celebrations to mark the Melbourne Cup, and our journalists were on the ground taking photos of them.

In Tamworth locals enjoyed a race meet, where Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull turned up to support his former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce and this guy got 19 seconds of fame

Armidale celebrated with a fundraising luncheon for CanAssist at the Jockey Club. 

Glen Innes watched the race from the Services Club.

This Goondiwindi crowd is lucky enough to be at the Melbourne Cup.
