Hail storm hits Armidale

A fast-moving thunderstorm tore through Armidale on Monday afternoon, bringing with it hail and heavy rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Northern Tablelands in the late afternoon.

In Narrabri, residents have reported hail to the size of golf balls.

Across the state, the rapid pace of the storms meant Sydney escaped the deluge with most areas avoiding falls of much more than 5 mm.
