The club hope to raise $35,000 to buy new boats to keep up with the membership demand. President Milton Kirkpatrick said the Sports Foundation, a tax deductible fundraising organisation, stepped in to help.
“We are starting to put together a few boats but we need more so we saw the Sports Foundation as a good option for us to raise funds, particularly with the tax benefits of it. A good boat is about $10,000 each. The next one we want is a lightweight quad, that'll cater for the younger and the women competitors,” he said.
Armidale rowers brought home medals from the NSW Masters earlier this year and more boats will allow more success in the water.
“The Masters program is good and older people can still compete at a competitive level,” Kirkpatrick said.
