It wasn’t the best start to first grade for Guyra as they met Hillgrove in red-hot form for round one.

Guyra won the toss and elected to bat, a decision which pleased Hillgrove skipper Matt Schaefer.
“We didn't win the toss but we got sent out to bowl and I wanted to bowl on that deck anyway, it was a little bit green,” he said.
The visitors were left ruing their decision to bat first as Max Laurie made quick work of the top three.
Young batsman Nick Page provided some resistance for his side, spending the longest out at the crease for 11 before Laurie claimed him as well.
Jake Davies gave Laurie his 5-fa and Sean Skinner and Schaefer collected the rest for Guyra’s total of 57.
“Max Laurie and Sean Skinner bowled really good line and length,” Schaefer said.
“He just bowled a good length and was rewarded with his partnership with Sean who bowled really tight at the other end.
“It was a pretty good start for those guys, first game of the year and straight into good areas.”
It didn’t take much work for Hillgrove to chase down 58, only losing Matt Baillie and Josh Croft with Schaefer and new recruit Will Archer seeing out the innings.
“We lost Bails in the first over. Got me to the crease a bit earlier than expected but Crofty and I put a bit of a partnership together to start with and put on 30-odd,” Schaefer said.
“When you're only chasing 58 that's what you need to do, a couple of small partnerships and you'll get home.”
While Guyra were outclassed by their more experienced opponents, Schaefer believes there is plenty of potential in the newcomers to first grade’s outfit.
“To their credit they have a couple of good young guys who played some pretty good cricket,” he said.
“BJ Cameron bowled really well so I was impressed with him as well as young Nick Page batted well.
“He was very patient.
“He only scored 11 runs but he stuck around for a fair while and just worked them around.”
