Karl Triebe once again got City’s cricket season off to a flyer, starring with the ball in hand in his side’s 78-run win over Ex-Services. He took 9-20 in round one last season against the Barbarians and in Saturday’s opener against Ex-Services nabbed 6-6.

Servies captain John Elliot made decision to bowl first and it looked promising as Josh Targett claimed the scalps of City’s top three.
“We had a bit of a scare early on losing three quick wickets and then Michael Allen and Andy Sawyer steadied the ship for us. We found once Andy got out Michael Allen and Bryce Smith put on an innings-saving performance for us to get us up to a decent total,” Triebe said.
Defending 144, Triebe landed his team the first four wickets for five runs before Dillon Yeomans chimed in to claim Benji Marshall for 12.
From there the onslaught continued. Brad Widders provided some resistance for Servies with 18 but City’s bowlers denied them any chance of a comeback.
“Good bowling from everyone tied them down to not many runs and a 6-fa by myself, but in saying that, those sort of wickets can't be taken if the bowlers up the other end aren't doing their job as well, tying batsmen down and not letting them score runs,” Triebe said.
“It was a good all-round effort from all the bowlers that bowled on the day.”
Triebe hopes his side’s form can continue after they started last season strong but then faltered and failed to make the finals.
“With our few new recruits and guys that have been away that have been back this year it really looks like we are going to have a much stronger outlook for the season,” he said.
