A fiery Australian tennis player, whose commitment to the sport is sometimes called into question is a description that could easily be applied to either Bernard Tomic or Nick Kyrgios, but Tomic's girlfriend Emma Blake-Hahnel disagrees.

"They are completely different people with different personalities and they have their own way about going about things, you can't really compare them. It's like comparing apples with pears," Blake-Hahnel told Fairfax Media from Melbourne's VIP-filled Virgin AFL Grand Final Party.

Just last week, Kyrgios, 22, current world number 20, said it was unfair to lump him in with Tomic, 24, a one-time world number 17 who has now fallen to 146, saying he had "lost his way".

But defending her boyfriend of two years, Blake-Hahnel said: "He very much has it all together."

Choosing her words carefully, she added: "I don't think Bernard ever compares himself with Nick."

The model and nutrition student, 21, who has been accompanying him around the world for almost two years, believes Tomic's bad boy reputation is unfair, explaining that part of the reason for his outbursts is his dislike for media.

"He's misunderstood. He's literally the nicest guy, you can even ask my parents," she said.

"My dad was scared to meet him at first because he thought he'd be a bit arrogant and then he meets him and thinks he is the sweetest, most kind boy. He has this bad boy persona but it's really not him."

Quickly becoming one of Melbourne's most high-profile influencers - think the future Bec Judd of the tennis world - Blake-Hahnel has now based herself back home to focus on her career.

"It's not the Bernard show anymore, it's the Emma and Bernard show," she laughed.

"We are still very much I love but I'm focusing more on me. He's completely supportive."

While Tomic was at the Chengdu Open, Blake-Hahnel attended the high profile Virgin AFL Grand Final party alongside the likes of Chris Judd, Natalie Roser, Billy Brownless and Rob Mills.
