Saturday fell just shy of the hottest September day on record at 28.5 degrees – 28.7 still holds the record from 2013.
The city sweltered through higher than average temperatures every day since last Thursday – with more warm weather on the way, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
A maximum of 28 degrees is predicted for Wednesday, following a low of 3 in the morning.
Partly cloudy and a top of 27 degrees on Thursday with rain forecast for Friday and Saturday – bringing a cooler change.
Across the state, record-breaking heat has broken a September record and total fire bans remain in place across half of NSW.
