NEGS have laid claim to being the best in the state as they brought home three trophies from the Independent Girls Schools Sports Association.
The Kristen Cohen-coached junior and senior netball teams as well as the Michelle Wilsmore-led junior hockey team with finished the season as undefeated premiers.
The junior netballers beat Kambala in the final by three goals to win the trophy while the senior side beat Roseville by the same margin. A thrilling finish in a local derby saw NEGS hold off PLC 2-1 for the junior hockey title.
The school’s sports co-ordinator Josh Cohen said it was an overwhelming feat with the teams having gone years without winning.
“The girls throughout the year have shown tremendous dedication to the team and put in the extra work and I think the results have shown that hard work,” he said.
“Considering, to my knowledge, I don't think they've won in recent times to break that drought, there were definitely some moments of emotional girls and lots of excitement and cheering. They definitely were very emotional, especially some of the senior IGSSA girls who have been trying to win for six years.”
Cohen said the sports program will now look to build on this year’s success.
“We will be building on this year by exposing the Girls to new experiences such as taking our senior IGSSA teams to watch Netball and Hockey matches at the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
