With Norths United, Oxley Vale Attunga and North Companions already guaranteed a spot in the top four heading into the final round, Tamworth FC and Demon Knights – who met on Saturday – were the two sides fighting for a spot in the finals.
DK coach Evan Quaife lamented the start was what ultimately cost his side in the 2-1 loss to FC.
“When the other teams scores in the first five minutes, we were behind the 8-ball to start with,” he said.
“I thought we played quite well, kept the ball there, kept it on the ground but when you concede in the first five minutes and your 1-0 down, it’s not the start you’re hoping for.”
He said the side could have got in front late in the half but just didn’t take their chances.
“It was a bit disappointing, I thought we played reasonably well,” he said.
“We’ve lost the game and the season’s over.”
