DK had their work cut out for them with their round 19 premier league opponents on a point-scoring blitz with 21 goals in their previous two matches.
Together with the task of stopping East’s strike weapons, DK were hopeful of putting points on the board with their recent games, with the exception of last week’s against the bottom-placed Inverell Joeys, all low-scoring affairs.
The host side put two goals on in the opening half through Cody Watts and Kirk Burton to their opponent’s one.
In the second stanza, DK stepped their enthusiasm up a notch and ran away with the game. Watts scored his second while Burton brought up his hat-trick.
BJ Kliendienst was East Armidale’s lone goal scorer in the second term, courtesy of a penalty shot, to bring up the final 5-2 scoreline.
Demon Knights coach Evan Quaife was pleased with his side’s ability to hit the back of the net.
I thought it would be quite a close game, the first half was but the second half there we got on top of them and the players really lifted.
- Evan Quaife
“Probably getting five goals for us,” he said.
“We haven't got too many goals recently.
“I thought it would be quite a close game, the first half was but the second half there we got on top of them and the players really lifted.
“We deserved the win.”
With a host of players succumbing to injuries and a heavy match schedule, Quaife made some changes.
“Conor MacGregor came on to sweeper there and didn't put a foot wrong,” he said.
“A hat-trick there by Kirk Burton and Cody Watts got two so it was a great team performance.
“I brought Reece Habchi up from the reserves today.”
Demon Knights head up to Phil Wheaton Oval next Saturday to take on cross-town rivals Norths United.
