Coming off a draw and a loss the weekend prior, DK set out to reaffirm themselves as a semi-finals contender against Inverell Joeys and did so convincingly.
The home side piled on nine goals to Inverell’s nil after the game was reduced to 60 minutes on Saturday.
An early injury to the Joeys’ goalkeeper delayed play and the game was consequently shortened.
Declan Humphreys led the way for the hosts with three goals with the other six divided between DK’s strike players.
DK coach Evan Quaife was disappointed the game time was reduced and his team not having more of an opportunity to add more goals to their for and against.
“It could come down to goal average for places in the finals,” he said.
“We still have a chance.
“We have to play to our best every game and try and get some points from all the games really.”
The next task DK face is East Armidale who are coming off a 10-2 walloping of South Armidale.
Quaife believes his side will have a battle on their hands with their cross-town opponents finding some scintillating form in the late stages of the season.
“This weekend, Easts are a tough commodity there,” he said.
“They are in a bit of form at the moment too.
“Last time we played them they were pretty strong.
“They are a fast, strong, aggressive team and play good football so it will be a tough game for us no doubt.”
“They will be hungry to roll us at home and try and finish us off I daresay so we just have to be just as hungry to make sure that doesn't happen.
Demon Knights have four games remaining for the season, including one catch up match against Tamworth FC from round 14, scheduled to be played at Rologas on August 27.
Demon Knights sit just one point behind FC on the table with a stronger goal differential, 14 to FC’s 12, and their rescheduled game could go a long way to determining who snags the fourth and final spot in the semi-finals.
