Along with local physiotherapist, Rob Tindale, from the New England Spinal & Sports Physiotherapy Centre, PLC Armidale was privileged to host parents of Adam Gilchrist, Australian cricket legend, June and Stan Gilchrist from Lismore.
Gilchrist told a few stories but more importantly shared his experiences of how families can assist their talented athletes achieve higher levels of representation, especially from a regional context.
“There needs to be a culture of [whatever] sport in the family. Our family spoke cricket over dinner, and every waking hour,” he said.
“You [the athlete] need to love it and have respect for the game.”
Also launched at the event was the Sport Supporters’ Group where the Directors of Sport and Development will work with parent volunteers to build community through sport and raise a few dollars along the way to support the College’s various sporting activities.
