The idea, cooked up by Terry Cooke, relies on the public to make a donation to crowd-funding website Pozible, with a twist.
With every pledge made, the higher the amount, the more you get back – ranging from an unsigned copy of the book to a six hour guided tour of the Gara Gorge.
“I wanted to raise enough money to publish a book, I set a target of about $8000,” Mr Cooke said.
“You set up a series of rewards, you can have other rewards like two hours tuition photography, a glamour shoot, people effectively pledge for those rewards.”
Having raised half the money he needs already, Mr Cooke has 31 days to collect the rest, or the money goes back to the philanthropists.
“I started the project off a couple of years ago and called it 100 Photographers, I think 100 was a bit ambitious,” Mr Cooke said.
The images fall into different categories, including landscapes, cityscapes, flora, fauna, events and others.
“Essentially what we’re trying to do is give people a send of what it’s like to live in the high country region,” Mr Cooke said.
“It’s a nice snapshot of what it’s like to live up here.
“We have some brilliant country, not only do we have the four seasons which gives us very distinct photographers throughout the year, but we also have all the gorge country.”
If the book is printed, an exhibition of the works will be held at the New England Regional Art Museum on March 23, 2018.
