AS THE Armidale Regional Council election draws nearer, candidates have come out in force, that includes the six faces of the Country Labor Party.
Standing behind Debra O’Brien is second-in-charge Susan McMichael, who hopes to bring more jobs and new industry to the region.
“Council is a really important decision-making body and I like what Council does, it has all sorts of interesting powers particularly since the state government divulged some of its powers to the councils,” she said.
“I’ve been in Armidale for about thirty years, I really love this town and I want to be involved in Council.”
Ms McMichael said Labor stands for a fair go.
“It’s about working with everyone and having a safety net,” she said.
“We have a huge youth unemployment rate, even underemployment for people who come here for their spouses and families and have to be here.
“I’m interested in listening to the community, seeing what ideas are already on the table, how they work, what we need and looking at a lot of ideas.”
The rest of the party include former University of New England student Liam Dudgeon, pathology nurse Yvonne Langenburg, archaeology student Jasmine Hughes and English teacher Margaret Finley.
Nominations open July 31.
