The money, which is part of the NSW Government’s $100 million Regional Cultural Fund, offers unprecedented opportunities for arts, music and literary institutions across our state, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said.
Mr Marshall visited NERAM on Monday, alongside the Minister for Arts, Don Harwin, to learn more about the art gallery’s plans for expansion.
“With its storage unit full, the gallery is looking to build more space to store its burgeoning collection of iconic Australian artworks,” Mr Marshall said.
“There are a tremendous range of cultural facilities across our region, making life in the Northern Tablelands a richer experience.
“From Uralla’s McCrossins Mill Museum to Armidale’s NECOM, there is a tremendous breadth of artistic expression in our region.”
The funding will go towards building bigger and better cultural facilities, and for the first time, operational funding to support the delivery of services.
“I encourage councils, local arts organisations and cultural groups to get writing expressions of interest for the Regional Cultural Fund, to ensure the Northern Tablelands gets its fair share of money from this bumper arts funding,” Mr Marshall said.
The current upgrades at NERAM include re-cladding the external façade and replacing insulation at a cost of around $315,000.
