The three game Charity League finished on the weekend with a fantastic day’s games and good natured banter between the players. The winner of bragging rights eventually went to the Regional Australia Bank Reds who had two wins from three games and just edged out the North West Locksmiths Blacks who also had two wins but had a greater run differential. The Battery World Pin Stripes came in third place and fourth place went to the McCulloch Bulk Haulage Greys.

The big winner on the day though was our four selected charities – MND Australia came away $1,000 ahead thanks to the Reds, Cancer Council will receive $500 and Batyr and Riding for the Disabled will collect $250 each.
Ruth Loseby, the coordinator for the local Tamworth MND Support group was very appreciative of all the support the Tamworth Baseball Association players were giving to all the charitable organisations.
“It’s a great effort by all those involved and every dollar goes to support those people in the community who are dealing with major upheaval and changes to not only their lives, but their families too,” she said.
B Grade Results
The Armidale Outlaws returned to the winners list after back to back losses with a thumping 20 run win over Gunnedah Giants 23 – 3. Newcomer Brodie Groth had his first outing on the mound for the Outlaws and proved to be a handy thrower, despite some early errors gifting the Giants a three run lead. It was all one way traffic after that early spark though, with the Outlaws keeping the pressure on, amassing a huge lead they never surrendered. Coach Dale Smith was happy that his players found some form again with the bat and played pretty faultless baseball after the first inning.
In another maroon filled derby game, it was the Cougars who triumphed this time over the Cavaliers in a tight 10 – 9 victory, both sides collecting eight hits each on the day. The win leapfrogs the Cougars up into third place on the B Grade ladder behind Warriors (69% winning percentage) and top of the table Armidale (70% winning percentage).
