The UNE Lions lined up against University of Queensland in trial matches on Saturday.
While they weren’t successful on the scoreboard in the trial games, Lions head coach Tom Bower said the signs were pleasing in the lead up to the first round on August 25.
“That is the first time some of those girls have played together and the talent is phenomenal, we have a lot of players from NSW Country, against a team that is meant to be the favourites for this tournament,” he said.
“Both matches were tightly contested, even our development girls in the second game were phenomenal.
“We are really happy with the combinations that are starting to stick and we will build into the tournament in six weeks time.”
They will face Bond University in two weeks for another trial game.
