The Blues were aiming to gain a victory after consecutive losses but ill-discipline made the side suffer with Robb’s points coming through penalties.
The students’ coach Sam Ditchfield said the 20-18 triumph came down to a case of the team taking the chance to kick for goal when they could.
“We took our opportunities when we got the penalties, when we got into an attacking position they gave away penalties so we never really had a chance to score tries when you can kick for goals,” he said.
“We took the points that were on offer which, at the end, payed dividends.
“Though we had a few blokes out, I don't think that reflects the closeness of the game, Armidale had improved a lot.”
The New England Rugby fixtures this weekend have been swapped with the round 13 games.
Robb College now have the bye in first grade but seconds take on Gwydir.
Ditchfield expects there will be an abundance of players to choose from for the “must-win” encounter.
“Our second grade plays Bingara in a game which both games need to win,” he said.
“They are on 21 in third position and we are on 19 in fourth position. The loss to Armidale last weekend, we went from second to fourth.
“That's how tight our second grade comp is. We have 22 more players available this week than what we had last week with people back from injury and back at uni.”
