The NSW Pony Club Championships will be contested at the Australian Equestrian and Livestock Events Centre in Tamworth from this Saturday and the stakes are high.
Anna Jarvis, Courtney Hanlon-Whiteman, Saskia and Jazz Kennett, Katie Williams, Charlie Aitken, Layla Williams and William Wood are part of the Zone 13 team alongside riders from Kingstown, Bundarra, Inverell, Glen Innes and Walcha.
Chief instructor Belinda Williamson said the Zone has experienced a lot of success at the event in the past and this group of riders will make the region proud once again.
“It is state championship level so it is best of the best,” she said.
“They are all good kids going.
“They should all do well and we wish them the best.”
Two riders from the Zone, Wood and Jorja Power, who attends New England Girls’ School, will be in state selectors’ sights to possibly be chosen for the NSW team for Nationals.
“They haven't been selected yet but they are on the long list and the selectors will be at Tamworth watching,” Williamson said.
Power rides at Walcha with fellow NEGS student Matilda Hall and up-and-comer Amber Britten.
Jack Buckman is the lone representative from Bundarra, competing at his first state event.
“He is an up-and-coming young rider, he will be jumping C grade,” Williamson said.
“Jumping will be his forte.
“First state championships for Jack but [he is] a great rider and we wish him well.”
Glen Innes have a promising pair in Shae Partridge and Luke Kiehne.
“Shae is a seasoned championships rider,” Williamson said.
“She has past winnings, presents herself extremely well, very professional young lady. Luke is an excellent young male rider and has done the show circuit and is a grand champion rider.”
