Retired solicitor Phil Hamblin has been honoured for service to the law, particularly through assistance to the local Indigenous community, and John McPhee has received an OAM for service to the transport industry.
Guyra resident Brian Marshall was also an OAM recipient for service to primary industry education.
Mr Hamblin was a solicitor with Kamilaroi Aboriginal Legal Service Armidale and Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ ACT between 1988 and 2015.
He also worked with various jurisdictions in both NSW and the Northern Territory, from 1979 to 2015.
Mr Hamblin, who retired last year, said he was exhilarated but also humbled by the honour.
Mr McPhee is a former president of the NSW Transport Association and for more than 30 years he was proprietor and chief executive officer of his family company McPhee Transport, later known as McPhee Interstate Freight Express.
Mr McPhee’s OAM noted his work in improving supply chain and logistics. He was inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in 2008.
Mr Marshall, a grazier who lives near Guyra, was recognised for his work in education, specifically, training and supporting groups in holistic management since the mid 1990s.
The Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove approved 891 awards to be announced today in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours List.
The Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours List recognises a diverse range of contributions and service across all fields, including professional endeavours, community work, Australia’s Defence Force and Emergency Services.
