The 36-year-old man’s identity can not be revealed for legal reasons after he appeared in an Albury court on Thursday.
Much of the details surrounding the case can not be reported for legal reasons, but the charges follow an investigation by Armidale detectives.
Detectives allege the man sexually abused two young girls in Sydney in 1996 and Armidale in 1998.
Officers travelled to Victoria after obtaining a court-issued warrant for the man’s arrest for the allegations of abuse stemming back 20 years.
Victoria police arrested the 36-year-old man in Shepparton before Armidale detectives applied for and were granted his extradition in a Victorian court.
The man was taken to Albury Police Station by detectives where he was charged with three counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 10 years.
He was refused bail by police and spent the night in custody before appearing in Albury Local Court on Thursday.
Magistrate Tony Murray ordered investigators to compile and serve a brief of evidence in relation to the Sydney charge and serve it on the man’s Wagga Wagga defence solicitor by March.
Investigators have also been ordered to compile the evidence against the man on the two Armidale-based charges before the case returns to court in mid-July.
The man made no application for bail and it was formally refused by Mr Murray.
