The students piled 51 points on to the Barbarians’ five in the round eight clash, the first of three games in one week.
Coach Sam Ditchfield said it was “a tough game” and he was impressed with the way his team stood up in defence.
“It was probably a lot closer than the score indicated,” he said.
“Our guys won the game through their defence and when they had the ball, they made the most of it.”
Nick Sorrenson was nominated as his team’s best, earning the three points, followed by Tom Bucknell and James Gavin.
“It was hard to split the points,” Ditchfield said.
“We lost a few players during the week but everyone who stepped up into those positions stood up.”
In the second game of their busy week, Robb College take on UNE rivals St Albert’s College on Wednesday night in a re-scheduled round 10 game.
The last time the two teams faced off, the reigning premiers walked away 37-22 winners.
Despite losing to Albies in their last encounter, Robb College were the better of the two sides in the second half.
Albies led 25-5 at the break before Robb stages a comeback but went down 37-22.
To round out their week, Robb College take on Glen Innes-Guyra in an away match this Saturday.
The GhostStags will head into the game on fresh legs, coming off the bye, and full of confidence after securing their first win in their last outing against the Blues.
To play three games in a week will be a tough ask for Ditchfield’s team but he also has the dilemma of university holidays and player unavailability to overcome.
“I think I said earlier in the year they are going to be a team to look out for,” he said of this weekend’s opponents.
“We are going to be a depleted side because some of our boys have already finished exams and we can’t ask them to hang around for the week.”
In this Saturday’s other match, the Barbarians will come up against the Blues.
