Armidale Regional Council announced it would be naming the road after Mr Tydd, who was a great advocate for the airport and for many years was shire clerk then general manager of Dumaresq Shire Council.
Mr Tydd made a significant contribution toward the airport when the airport was the responsibility of Dumaresq Shire Council.
More recently he was involved in council committees to advance the current re-development of the Armidale Airport – a project which will bring great opportunities to Armidale.
“Don Tydd Boulevarde is the community’s way of saying thank you to an outstanding community leader and a much loved Armidalian,” council administrator Dr Ian Tiley said.
The names to be applied to the other roads in the subdivision will be deferred until the data has been gathered for the Chronological History of the airport.
All names proposed will still need to be advertised as required and will be referred to the Geographic Names Board for ratification.
