“They really need help to cope with whatever life has thrown at them and often they just need someone who cares and can help them get support.”
Keeping suicidal people safe is the focus of ASIST, a Lifeline workshop coming to Armidale.
Ms Anderson said there are signs, or invitations to help, when someone is contemplating suicide.
But, they can be difficult to recognise.
“This workshop teaches the skills of how to sit with someone that might be thinking about suicide, and how to keep them safe,” Ms Anderson said.
“It’s particularly useful for front line workers, anyone dealing with people in crisis – but it’s open to the public.”
The workshop is on June 15 to 16, for information visit lifelinehunter.org.au.
