Eight club members attended the regatta and NSW Rowing were impressed with club’s performances.
Tim Rogers and John Grant won gold in the Men’s Masters F (Average age 60) coxless pair in a time of 3.54.02 and teamed up with Milton Curkpatrick and Stephen Cotter in the Men’s E (average age 55) coxless fours to get the bronze in 3.38.41.
Just outside medal contention in fourth place was the Men’s F quad scull, Mens F double scull, Mixed A-C (27-49 age groups) double scull with the mixed A-C quad scull in third place and Cathryn McFarland placed fifth in the women C single scull.
“After our Queensland win we knew we had a chance but just hoped we could hold our own against the much stronger and larger Sydney and Canberra clubs and it’s so pleasing to see Armidale up on the podium at such a major rowing even,” Rogers said.
“We are in the process of acquired newer boats and oars to cater for the increase interest in rowing and to become more competitive, so expect an even stronger showing next year.”
Now that competition is out of the way, the club will focus on developing new members and are holding a learn to row session on Sunday, May 21, at 8.30am at Malpas Dam.
