Armidale’s Pint of Science Coordinator Dane Lyddiard said the international festival was a great way to inspire, spark conversation and help connect Australians with their local scientists and their research.
“Pint of Science gives world-leading researchers a platform to share their passion with their community at the local pub,” he said.
“It first began in England in 2012 and has since spread to eleven countries with more than 600 sessions around the world, with 73 taking place around Australia.”
The fast-growing event, which sold-out across multiple cities last year, is managed by volunteers and sponsored by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO.
This year’s Armidale event will feature scientists from the University of New England, University of Sydney, NSW DPI and CSIRO.
“We have some fascinating topics on the microbiome, human appetite, fluorescent chemistry and dingo research,” he said.
The event is to be held at The Wicklow Hotel in Armidale from May 15 to 17, in conjunction with the arrival of the International Festival, Pint of Science.
