Hunter Jack will be back to defend his title and has drawn a good barrier.
The seven-year-old brown gelding, trained by Tim Martin, placed third in his last start at Rosehill and in February, Hunter Jack won the Walcha Cup.
“He is in good form at the moment,” Martin told the Armidale Express. “He is racing better than ever.”
“The only concern is the weight – he will be carrying a fair bit more than he ever has before.”
Hunter Jack will be carrying 64kg, significantly more than all the other horses nominated for the cup and will be ridden by Molley Partridge.
“If Hunter Jack can win again, it will be my seventh Armidale Cup win,” Martin said.
So far Hunter Jack has earned $262,685 in prize money and an impressive $302,685 including bonuses.
