This year the flower display welcomed old faces as well as some new participants. Flower show veteran Frank Presnell took out a champion sash with his hydrangeas.
“I have lot of different colours [of hydrangeas] but this year they all came out in bloom when the Lamb and Potato Festival was on. The hot sun this year sort of buggered them,” he said.
This year also saw new faces Michael and Diane Rodgers winning first prize in the miscellaneous display with their zinnias. “We had never done this exhibiting before but someone asked us last minute to pick some things for the show … we didn’t expect to win anything but we did,” Ms Rodgers said.
Helen McKemey, who has been exhibiting for 10 years, won the champion sash for her creative display in the herbs and spices section.
“I love flowers … to do a floral arrangement is therapeutic and the completed arrangement very pleasing to admire,” Ms McKemey said.
