The Golden Gate campdraft has run for nearly 70 years and continues to prove popular with locals and travellers alike.
Committee member Peter King said it is a massive event every year and a lot of work goes into making it a success.
"We have had 1630 entries and on top of that we will do a second round of the open and then finals," he said.
"We will end up running 1800-1850 runs for the weekend.
"We will need about 2300 cattle to use, they have to come in and they have to go out so you really have 4600 cattle that are going to be picked up and go home."
People come from as far as the Northern Territory, Queensland and southern NSW to compete.
King has been involved with the campdraft for 30 years and said it has grown but they have to cap entries.
"We have continued to stay about the size we have because of time restraints, what you can run in the four days," he said.
"It is probably the biggest and most well-known campdraft in NSW."
The event finishes on Sunday.
