Armidale Archers are celebrating international success with member Dan Alter bringing home a gold medal from the Pan Pacific Masters Games.

Alter was busy practising for this event since returning from the State Target Championships where he achieved third place in the Men’s Compound Veterans Division.

The Pan Pac Games are held biannually on the Gold Coast and brings of sportsman from across the Pacific including Australia and New Zealand.

Archery is no exception and proved to be a very successful event held over two days.

Alter was leading the Veteran Compound Men’s division after the first day and went on to win the event comfortably.

On the local scene a very successful Come ‘n’ Try day held early November at Rugby League Park was staged.

As a result, a beginners course is now in progress with 13 participants.

Club day on Sunday saw new members Natalie and Luke get the opportunity to try out their new equipment.

They are very excited with this and look forward to competing in club events each week.

Yan and Eva continue to improve and with eight week old Phineas now regularly attending it will be exciting when he takes up the sport as well.  Other members shot varying rounds with Teena continuing to improve and Ella-rose also becoming more consistent.

Next Sunday will see members compete a 90 arrow round and members are reminded that the Christmas barbeque will be held following twilight shooting next Wednesday, December 7.

This will also be a farewell for the Matikainen family who are leaving Armidale.

The Matikainen’s have been heavily involved in archery for the past five years with Hannu being very busy with the construction of the amenities block which is now completed.

Armidale Archers encourage anyone to come and give their sport a go.
