Heads were bowed in reverence as Monsignor Ted Wilkes read Bible readings, he said that the common red poppy had become a symbol of remembrance for those who shed their blood for their country.
Words read from a Psalm by Monsignor Ted Wilkes carried the message that even though there are wars and the world may be restless; we should look to God for help.
“We should live in hope of no conflict and love one another just as Jesus taught us,” he said.
“Brotherly love can have an enormous effect on the way we live our lives.”
Deputy Mayor Robert Bell said he was honoured to attend the ninety-eighth Remembrance Day Ceremony.
Congratulating Uralla RSL on their support for service personnel and their families, he added that the price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
