The panel will be moderated by Robert Heather, Art Museum Director at NERAM.
“Anyone can start an art collection by purchasing one key work that ignites their passion,” Mr Heather said.
“You often think of art collectors as being an exclusive and unusual group, but the truth is that anyone can start an art collection by purchasing one key work that ignites their passion.”
“Every collector starts somewhere and I believe one of the key reasons why so many people around here have become interested in collecting art is the amazingly successful Packsaddle fundraising exhibition, now in its 31st year at NERAM which offers a huge range of affordable artworks for a variety of tastes.”
“This panel discussion will be an opportunity for people who already have collections to join with others who are just starting out and discuss how and why they collect artworks with a group of arts industry professionals,” he said.
“Of course participants will also be tempted to indulge themselves buying artworks from this year’s Packsaddle exhibition which has over 400 works for sale.”
The panel discussion will include art historian Akky van Ogtrop, who is an articulate advocate for collecting works on paper, Walcha Gallery of Art director Carley McLaren, and the proprietors of Armidale’s Gallery 126, Anne and Stuart Boggs.
