Ms Stephen owns clothing store PasTish in Hanna's Arcade and dresses women for a living.

“I’m noticing a lot of floral and abstract patterns or abstract designs are in at the moment, a lot of bright colours,” she said.

“The frocks are much longer, to the knee or to the ankle, a lot of young girls are starting to wear dresses to the knee which is lovely.

“There’s still the jumpsuit that’s fashionable for young girls but I’m trying to change that for race day.”

Ms Stephen has judged Fashions on the Field and numerous other charity fashion events in Armidale.

“What I look for is the whole outfit from head to toe, I look for the matching fascinator, bag and shoes,” she said.

“I like to think that women make an effort for race day and I always congratulate them on making an effort.”

Ms Stephen said she tries to stock something for everyone in her store.

"I have designer label clothing and just your everyday labels and work wear, I try and cater for everyone,” she said.

“On race day you can go from a simple flower in your hair or a large fascinator, whether you’ve got short hair or long hair I can certainly give advice.

“I’m a fashion stylist so I like to think I can help women to choose something that suits their shape and the colours that suit their skin.”

Melbourne Cup takes place on November 1.
