It started as a rugby reunion but now Rugtoberfest is a triennial event which celebrates the sport in all its forms.
The concept started in 2011 and has grown with a men's sevens micro tournament, school girl sevens, veterans (over 35's) and a traditional inter college clash between Albies and Robb College womens XV.
Run by Sports Think Tank, the event aims at raising the profile of women in sport and focuses on boosting numbers of Indigenous participation and inclusion in rugby union.
Rugtoberfest’s main game which would have featured some of the best Australian and New Zealand women’s rugby players was cancelled due to financial reasons.
The New England Hotel will host the first function for the supporters on Friday night, the teams will have a function at the Wicklow on Saturday night before a recovery session at the Wicklow on Sunday morning.
