When an elderly man collapsed outside Coles Armidale Mr George didn’t hesitate to step in for a random act of kindness.
The man reported having trouble breathing and walking so Mr George organised his staff to pick up the items on the man’s shopping list, foot the bill and then throw in $20 for his taxi home.
“I attended with other team members and first aid officers just to make sure that we provided him with the right things.
“We sat him down and made sure he was okay, and he was okay, the poor guy had a shopping list to do and he wasn’t comfortable to get up and do it himself so I sent one of my team to go and pick up the stock for him.
“It’s just human nature, at the end of the day we are all human and we should always take care of each other, Australia is a wonderful country and at Coles we do make sure that our customers come first and we always go above and beyond for our customers, it’s just a normal day,” he said.
A post about the generosity on the Armidale Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down Facebook page has racked up more than 480 likes.
“George is a very kind man, always willing to help the community, he should get an award for all the support he gives to the Armidale community,” Hazel Vale wrote.
“And that is quality customer service, above and beyond, people like this make the world a better place,” Amanda McEwan wrote.
Mr George has worked at the store since April last year and has always considered himself the kind of man that goes above and beyond.
“If we have a team member going through hardship we’ll make sure we go above and beyond for them, we also do a lot in the community and our shop is very well known for that.
“We run a community barbecue every Saturday so any charity organisation is more than welcome to come and approach us, book the barbecue and we supply all the ingredients and all money raised goes to the group, we just help out,” he said.
