Souths led for most of the match until some late changes saw the home side fight back to within one goal.
“We were up 4-1 with about 20 to go and we decided to bring a few off due to yellow cards and resting up for the leading week with it being the semi finals,” coach Ben Wright said.
“So basically it forced a re-shuffle and the combinations just didn't gel as well as it did before the changes. Before that we were playing some really good looking football.”
Michael Tobin, Lucas Kucinski, Cody Watts and Jaime Wright all slotted goals for the side who take on Tamworth again in this Saturday’s elimination final at home. Wright said although FC stormed home in the last round match, his side will be ready to step up a notch in the semi-final.
“The key will be to head out and stick to our game plan again,” Wright said.
“We've had a good look at them right across the board and can now work on the little areas in which let us down in the second half last week. I'm sure it will be another tough contest as they've had a good look at us now as well but we are confident of coming out with the result if we perform to our best.”
There have been some upsets across the league in the last couple of rounds but Wright said that doesn’t phase his side and it will come down to who turns up ready to play.
“Honestly I think it will come down to who takes there chances on the day. It’s semi final football now so any slip-ups and you can be eliminated,” he said.
“We know there's no second chances from here on in.” First grade commences at 3pm with reserve grade at 12.30pm at the sportsground.
