Sport may not be compulsory at PLC Armidale but you would think it was given the high levels of participation across the whole college, and more importantly the consistent results being achieved.

The college’s comprehensive sporting program, which caters for the beginner to the talented, has recently recorded a stunning list of outstanding accomplishments.
PLC Armidale has quite a number of passionate and accomplished horsewomen, despite not having an equine facility at the college.
Year 7 student from Walcha, Jorja Power, joined sisters Sarah (Year 10) and Clare Askey (Year 12) in the NSW Inter-Schools Equestrian Championships.
The girls placed in the top five in each event they competed.
Additionally Jorja was also named state champion in two of the events she entered and was also named Champion 11-13 years Combined Training rider at the State Pony Club Championships later in the holidays.
Last week, 40 PLC girls travelled to Sydney for the first of two, possibly three, weekends in Sydney for the annual Independent Girls’ Schools Sports’ Association (IGSSA) competitions in both hockey and netball.
Quietly sitting alongside sport at PLC Armidale is the internationally acclaimed leadership program, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Co-ordinated by the College’s Head of Senior School, Anna Caldwell, it is the fastest growing activity at the College being enjoyed by over seventy girls from Year 9 -12.
Recently, Mrs Caldwell travelled to Sydney to attend the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award presentation ceremony held at Government House with six recent graduates of the College: Josie-May Waters, Georgia Lloyd, Ariane Dol, Emma Tindale, Laura Tindale and Melissa Harvey.
In addition four girls in Year 11 were awarded the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. They were Hannah Croft (Burren Junction), Alison Chapman (Armidale), Dakota Love (Armidale) and Georgia Hutton (Armidale).
“To have so many girls willing to take up this leadership opportunity is testimony to the offering of the international program as well as the co-ordination at PLC Armidale over the past 10 years. It is an outstanding program incorporating community service with personal endeavor and prepares out girls for success in life beyond school,” Principal Nicola Taylor said.
