Our last round game took us to Bingara to play against the home side.
We knew it was going to be a hard challenge as Gwydir love playing at home.
Guyra started the first 20 minutes on the back foot with River Rats’ five eighth kicking it to the corners turning us around at every opportunity.
Guyra were finding it hard to gain field possession as we were penalised often giving Bingara a 6-0 lead.
10 minutes to go in the first half we found our momentum with Leroy Devine scoring out wide.
Beau Orchard had his kicking game on, successfully converting the try making the score 7-6 at half time.
The start of the second half was extremely physical, everyone stood up in defence as we were playing to keep the challenge cup.
Penalties were continuously against Guyra and we were unable to find any rhythm.
Meanwhile, Dan Vidler scored a great try to put us further in front.
Unfortunately Gwydir took every opportunity and converted all their penalties bringing the score to 22-19 in Guyra’s favour.
In the final seconds of the game Gwydir were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, making the score 22 all draw.
The Ghosts have gone through the season undefeated on the field making them minor premiers.
The semi-finals are on this Saturday, July 30 with our match kicking off at 1pm at Bellevue Oval.
Ghosts will be taking on St. Albert’s College to hopefully secure a spot in the Grand Final, held on August 13.
Please come and support the Ghosts this Saturday for a great day of rugby!
The first match of the day commences at 10.10am with a fourth grade exhibition match between Robb and Albies.
A women’s sevens match begins after that with the third grade match between Baa Baas and Robb College starting at 11.30am and first grade commences at 3.05pm.
