Duty officer Inspector Chris McKinnon said a Toyota Hiace was reported missing from a Beardy Street address on Sunday night.  

“Unknown persons have smashed a window and taken the car overnight, however the vehicle was recovered at 10am on Monday on North Street,” Inspector McKinnon said. 

Police are warning motorists to properly secure their vehicles with 10 owners reporting their car windows smashed. 

“Officers were attending the general area around Brown Street when they observed a number of other cars with their windows smashed,” Inspector McKinnon said. 

“Motorists should ensure their property is properly secure and if they have to leave it unattended to park it in a well-lit area.”

Residents have reported car break-ins on Butler, Brown, Allingham, Beardy, Jessie, Barney, Dangar and Meredith Streets. 

“Somewhere between about 9.15pm and 9.55pm on Saturday night car parked in Cinders Lane had its window smashed and a briefcase was stolen containing personal items,” Inspector McKinnon said. 

 “There were two reports  of two cars parked on Jessie Street having their windows smashed on Saturday night and unknown persons took off with toiletry bag from one of the cars while the other was ransacked but nothing stolen.  

“Between 7pm on Saturday night and about 7am on Sunday, unknown persons have smashed the window of a car parked on Butler Street and stolen cash, DVDs and headphones from the vehicle.

“We are asking any residents to come forward if they saw anything over the weekend.”
