Halfway through the season, all four Armidale teams sit in the top five on the ladder and with finals spots up for grabs, the rivalry between the clubs is heating up. 

The Scorpions went into the round in sixth place after struggling to put the same team on the field in recent weeks. 

Coach Ben Wright was thrilled with the way his side dominated the match and believes they now have the right formula to make an impact in the competition. 

“We starting gelling together really well and they didn’t really trouble us,” he said. 

“We had been chopping and changing the last few weeks before that and it was just good to get that same team on the park.

“We just played really well together on the weekend and just created a few chances and took them. 

“We ended up putting a couple away in the first half so it was two-nil going into half-time.

“We came straight back out from half-time, where we spoke about not staying in the sheds and getting right back out there and getting into it.

“We luckily got another two and that just killed the game off once it was four-nil.”

Wright highlighted his team’s defence as being a major contributor to the victory and said goalkeeper Richard Morris was a standout in keeping their opposition to zero. 

Jaime Wright also impressed with a hat-trick. 

South Armidale travel to Tamworth this weekend for another tough match-up against second-placed Oxley Vale Attunga. 

Wright said the Scorpions can continue where they left off on Saturday and would go into the match with the confidence to topple the home side. 

“We got them at home in the first round,” he said.

“We beat them 2-1 so it should be a challenge down in Tamworth this time.

“We are just looking to build on the back of that good win.

“It will all come to nothing if we don’t turn up again this weekend.”

In the weekend’s other matchs, DK host Moree, Norths take on North Companions and East Armidale are at home to Namoi United.
