THE CHEMICALS watchdog will relocate from Canberra to Armidale if the Coalition is re-elected, deputy Prime Minister and New England MP Barnaby Joyce said yesterday.

Up to 175 jobs are expected to be created when the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority moves to the city, Mr Joyce said.
“The move will happen as soon as we return to office,” Mr Joyce said.
The authority, which registers agricultural and veterinary chemical products and enforces their compliance, will be housed at the University of New England in a newly-constructed building.
The Coalition would provide $24.1 million to support the relocation, Mr Joyce said.
