MORE than 200 people streamed through the gates of Fangorn garden despite the chilly weather on Sunday, and these smiling faces met the hordes with a steaming hot cup of tea.

Armidale and Uralla Red Cross branch volunteers manned the gates, a cake stall and were dishing out the soup, tea and coffee, among other treats.
Uralla Red Cross branch secretary Bev Stubberfield said the event, held as part of the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand Open Day, was an excellent opportunity for to raise money.
“It was a great effort by everybody from both the branches it was very, very well attended day,” Ms Stubberfield.
“I must say thank you to [garden owner] Maria Hitchcock for giving us the opportunity to fundraise, without her contacting us it would never have happened.
“She’s very fond of Red Cross and the work that Red Cross does and has been doing since 1914.”
The final takings of the day were split evenly between the two branches, with Uralla members meeting today to decide where to direct the funds.
