At last week’s monthly lecture, branch chairman Antony Deakin announced the society’s four latest recruits.
New England Regional Art Museum director Robert Heather took the total membership of the Armidale society to 200.
“I don’t usually call out the new members by name,” Mr Deakin said.
“From one to 200, it’s wonderful to have you all join or rejoin this year.”
London-based Egyptologist Lucia Gahlin led the lecture last Thursday night, unpacking the mysteries surrounding Nefertiti, the chief royal wife of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten.
While the scholar works in London’s Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, Ms Gahlin said she was keen to check out the University of New England’s Museum of Antiquities while in the city. The museum started in 1959.
Ms Gahlin was impressed with the collection, and included images taken from her visit to the city museum in her lecture slides.
