Australian Education Union president Correna Haythorpe said the campaign was promoting the educational reform.
“We are on the Gonski campaign trail, visiting schools in the New England, talking to people about the importance of the model and how this election is going to be an education election,” Ms Haythorpe said.
“This funding is changing people’s lives … we have three years of funding secured but we need the six.”
The president said the Australian Education Union was concerned about the future ramifications should the reform lose funding.
“Gonski is working in our schools, we are seeing amazing programs implemented and helping students who need a little extra help with their studies,” Ms Haythorpe said.
“To walk away from Gonski in 2018-19 would mean a $28 million gap in the New England electorate.
“It is critical that governments commit to this funding.”
