Charlotte Raleigh was successful in earning selection for the Independent Girls’ Schools netball team at a trial in Sydney recently.
Charlotte has been playing netball since she was seven and has played at a high level in recent years.
The IGSSA team will play against other state teams in Melbourne as well as further trials in Sydney for the Combined Independent School’s team.
She said she is proud to get the opportunity to represent the school and can’t wait for the competition to get underway.
“There was a trial down in Sydney with 30 people there,” she said.
“We trialed and they selected the team on the day.
“I was really happy because I recognised some of the girls through the state system and they were on the state development team so I knew they were high competition so I was really amazed.
“It is a really good team sport and I love the girls I play with.
“I love meeting new people in these teams and I love the fitness and competiveness.”
Charlotte will head to Sydney in August for the CIS selection.
Grace Cassidy and Sarah Wyatt have also been achieving success on the running track with top ten placings at the IGSSA cross country competition last week.
They have qualified to compete at the CIS event in Eastern Creek with spots up for grabs to compete at the state all schools later in the year.
Both girls have been running for a number of years and have had a taste of success before.
“I have been running since I was little but I really only got into the competitive stuff in the last couple of years,” Grace said.
“(I ran) at nationals this year in Perth I got 10th in the 800 metres and 11th in the 400 metres.”
“The athletics community is very good, especially around Armidale.
“Everyone is very supportive of how you go.”
“It is a competitive sport you don’t need a lot for,” Sarah said.
“I like the individuality of it.
“You are by yourself.”
The girls will head to Sydney in June for the CIS cross country carnival.
