After defeating Inverell Joeys eight nil in round one and beating North Companions six-nil in round two, Norths took on Namoi United at Phil Wheaton Oval on Saturday afternoon and gave them a 10 nil drubbing.
While Norths have had such big wins early on in the season, co-coach Neil Wheaton is reluctant to pump up his team’s chances believing they are yet to face the competition’s top sides.
“We have had a bit of a cruisy start,” he said.
“We haven’t really played any top opposition unfortunately the three teams we have played have lost a lot of players and they are sort of in the re-building stage.
“ So it is hard to say at the moment where we stack but we will just keep doing what we are doing and see how it all pans out.
“We are nearly full strength.”
The match against Namoi started with bang when Norths put points on the board just minutes into the game.
From there, Norths continued to dominate, running their opponents ragged over the course of the match.
“We scored in the first three minutes then we went a bit quiet and it was three nil at half time and then in the second half we turned it on and scored seven goals,” Wheaton said.
“The first half we kept the ball and knocked it around so by the second half they were pretty tired so that is when the goals started opening up.
“Just the movement of the ball.
“If you don’t have the ball you do a lot of running so I think that really helped in the second half that is why we scored so many.”
In the other matches, the local derby between East and South Armidale saw a tight finish with East Armidale taking the win 2-1 and Demon Knights went down to Tamworth 1-0.
The Northern Inland Premier League takes a break over the ANZAC long weekend before resuming on April 30.
